The importance of retreats

"Robin Hood" (Watercolour & Ink)

Just recently, I returned home from a Christian silent retreat in an area surrounded by forests and lakes. My 3 friends and I found this retreat soothing and refreshing as it renewed our spirits. Silence among us, in an area where we hear only the birds and the water, allowed us to truly feel and appreciate God's presence in nature. The silence allowed me much time to explore and soak up the natural beauty, something I enjoy more than sketching and painting. Retreats like this are always great reminders to avoid noise pollution as much as possible. There is so much beauty and comfort in silence! (The above image is a watercolour painting of Robin Hood.)
